ImmunoGen is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that develops targeted cancer therapeutics using its proprietary antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) technology. The Opportunity
Reporting to the Vice President, IP and Chief Patent Counsel, the Patent Agent will support all aspects of U.S. and foreign patent prosecution primarily in Biologics IP. The Patent Agent will be responsible for drafting patent applications, responding to official patent office actions, and developing a global prosecution strategy for maximizing IP position for discoveries in Research and Development. The Patent Agent will work with scientists and clinical staff to stay apprised of developments and to enlist their input in responding to various official patent prosecution actions. The Patent Agent will also be responsible for designing and implementing freedom to operate searches for research and technical operations. The role requires an enthusiastic self-starter with the initiative and organizational skills to manage a variety of projects including:
- Overseeing prosecution of a substantial portfolio of U.S. and foreign patents and patent applications
- Drafting new applications and responses to official actions
- Working with scientific and clinical staff to understand new developments and designing and implementing prosecution strategies to ensure the necessary protection
- Reviewing technical processes and conducting freedom to operate analyses as needed
- Reviewing technical manuscripts, posters, and other materials intended for publication and drafting patent applications in response as needed
- Reviewing and evaluating the commercial and technical activities of third parties
Who You Are
The successful candidate will have 2-4 years of experience at a law firm doing hands-on patent prosecution directly related to the life sciences industry. Candidates must also have an advanced degree in the biological or chemical sciences and be registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). While the primary subject matter will be the biological sciences, a technical background and hands-on patent prosecution experience involving chemistry is a plus. Candidates should be able to work independently, to balance and prioritize multiple tasks, and to respond effectively to rapidly changing priorities and deadlines. Strong organizational skills are also required, as are strong analytical and communication skills.
